Curriculum

PLAY is is the fundamental aspect of the Sprout's curriculum.  Each day combines engaging educational activities with intentional free play opportunities, art projects, social engagement and an abundance of time outdoors.

8:30-9:30 Drop off and free play

9:30-10:00 Plan for the day/Story
10:00-10:15 Snack
10:15-11:00 Learning Centers, Math
11:00-12:00 Outside Play
12:00-12:15 Story
12:15- 1:00 Lunch
1:00-1:30 Learning Centers Science
1:30-2:15 Free Play
2:15-3:00 Outside Play/Pickup

The Sprouts Curriculum is Based Upon:

  • Clear and defined aims and objectives.

  • Being flexible and open to new approaches and ideas on how to promote and meet the growing needs of children.

  • Recognizing that children are learning all the time and that children learn best when they are actively involved and interested.

  • A variety of activities for the physical development of the children.

  • Stimulating sensory experiences (touch, taste, sight, sound and smell) appropriate to the child’s level of development.

  • Encouraging children to think for themselves, helping them to make their own decisions and find their own answers to questions.

  • An atmosphere that offers the children suitable challenges and stimulates problem-solving.

  • Feelings of safety, trust and emotional security.

  • Helping children develop self-esteem by giving them the opportunity to be actively involved in their own learning.

  • Sociability, friendship and cooperation with others.

  • Striving to match all activities with each child’s level of ability and attention span.

Each domain of the curriculum is aligned to the RI Early Learning and Development Standards.  (RIELDS)

  • Language and Literacy: Listening Comprehension, Communication, Vocabulary, Phonological Awareness, Concepts of Print, Letter and Word Recognition, Reading Comprehension, Emergent Writing

  • Physical Development:  Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Health and Safety

  • Math and Reasoning: Numbers, Counting, Shapes, Spatial Awareness, Patterns and Sorting, Measurement, Logic

  • Scientific Reasoning:  Physical Science, Earth Science

  • Social and Emotional:  Self-Concept, Self-Direction, Social Relationships, Social Skills
